Evening Reference & Research Instruction at JKM

Holly Wilson is a LSTC PhD student and the evening Reference & Library Instruction Assistant at the JKM Library. Holly is in the Learning Commons area of JKM every Tuesday and Wednesday evening from 5 to 10 pm to help you with your research needs after Barry Hopkins has left for the day.

Just How Big is the Pentagon Budget?

The Presbyterian Church USA’s Office of Public Witness is hosting a webinar entitled, “Just How Big is the Pentagon Budget? Faith Perspectives on Pentagon Spending.”

Congregational Mini Garden Grant Program

Faith in Place is now accepting applications for their Migration, Monarchs, Birds and Me Congregational Mini Garden Grant Program to support partner congregations with existing community gardens.

Community Garden

Applications are accepted until November 3rd at 5pm. Grant money can be used to buy seeds, plants, soil, water harvesting infrastructure, or compost bins. Talk to Sarah Bennett if you have any questions!

Field Studies Information Sessions

All students are invited to participate in the 2014-2015 Field Studies Experiential Education Informational Session. If you are considering enrolling in this course next year, this exciting and engaging event is for you. Check out Dr. Reggie Williams and Dr. Kimberley Lymore (D.Min. ’09) as they talk about McCormick’s new Community Initiative on Different Drummers. The Greater Chicago Broadcast Ministries is the leader in ecumenical Emmy Award winning television on Chicago’s commercial stations.  They produce Different Drummers at CBS Channel 2 and Sanctuary on ABC Channel 7.​

Can We Stand Each Other?

During Reading Week, I traveled to Ferguson with Tyler Orem and Mary Kathryn Dean and McCormick alumni Nayoung Ha and MinWon Song. We went with the Korean American Resource and Cultural Center (KRCC) and other non-profit organizations like Black Youth Project, the Workers Center for Racial Justice, Chicago Workers Collaborative and others to protest against police brutality and racism in St. Louis and Ferguson, MO.

To analyze all that happened in this demonstration in a small article is impossible, so I will focus on one particular event: the protest march on Saturday, October 11th in downtown St. Louis. I will talk about it from my perspective: a Latino guy with the “privilege” of living in the United States of America and born with US citizenship.

During the march, people from around the country gathered to protest against police brutality. The diversity of the thousands of people that were there was immense. You could see African Americans, Africans, Latin@s, Latin@-Americans, Eastern Asians, Western Asians, Gays, Lesbians, Straight, Trans, Clergy members, Lay people, non-religious, Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, Jewish, etc.
